CommonVC is an accelerator that discovers and helps global founders working on solutions to help the world transition from an extractive economy to a more regenerative and sustainable economy.

Our current focus: 'Plastic Waste/ Circular Economy'
Mission 1: To remove 300,000,000 tons of plastic from the world economy.

As we know, 'Plastic Pollution' is directly linked to air quality, food waste, modern day slavery, climate breakdown, human health, the destruction of ecosystems and so much more. It is an issue across industries like food & drinks, personal care, transportation, fashion, construction, sports, aviation etc. Hence we are taking a holistic approach and we will help founders find real-world solutions to this problem which affects us all.

Company Shop Group is the largest commercial redistributor of surplus food and household products in the UK.
We enable some of the biggest retailers, manufacturers, food service and logistics providers to unlock value from surplus stock, which may have otherwise gone to waste.

Our incredible story started five decades ago and, today, we employ over 700 people and handled 70 million items in 2018 alone.

The stock we purchase is redistributed through Company Shop - a network of six membership-only stores - at discounted prices, to individuals who work in the food manufacturing supply chain, emergency services or the NHS.

Stock donated by our supply chain partners powers our award-winning social enterprise Community Shop, where members can purchase deeply discounted products. The revenue raised here is used to deliver personal development programmes supporting members to live fulfilling lives, resulting in stronger individuals and more confident communities.

Compassion in World Farming was founded 50 years ago in 1967 by a British farmer who became horrified by the development of modern, intensive factory farming.

Today we campaign peacefully to end all factory farming practices. We believe that the biggest cause of cruelty on the planet deserves a focused, specialised approach – so we are relentlessly focused on ending factory farming.

Compassion in World Farming is a registered charity in England and Wales (registered charity number 1095050) and a company limited by guarantee in England and Wales (registered company number 4590804).

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR

  • Our award winning undercover investigations have exposed the reality of modern intensive farming systems and brought the plight of farm animals to the attention of the world's media
  • Our political lobbying and campaigning has resulted in the EU recognising animals as sentient beings, capable of feeling pain and suffering.
  • We have also secured landmark agreements to outlaw the barren battery cage for egg-laying hens, narrow veal crates and sow stalls across Europe
  • Compassion in World Farming’s Food Business team is working with some of the world’s biggest food companies - retailers, producers and manufacturers. The companies we work with are a key part of the drive towards a more ethical and sustainable food supply.
  • Our Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards are already benefiting millions of animals each year. 613 million animals are set to benefit each year as a result of our Good Award winners’ policies.

We’re passionate about the power of product to transform people’s lives, on a massive scale. We fundamentally believe that products made with love and loved by many are crucial factors for success and scale. So we’ve created a distinctive VC firm that is singularly focused on Founders who are instinctive about product.

The Founders who build those products are few and far between, so we cultivate our portfolio through quality, not quantity. We’re specific, single-minded and selective. We are driven by the potential of the upside rather than paralysed by fear of the downside.

We are a lean, collegial and partner-driven firm. Yes or no, right or wrong, fit or unfit. It’s binary. All in. We’re here to work for our Founders. Only they can build the business. Our role is to be the ones they can rely on. To give them tough love, hard truths and solid backup. Our promise is to enable them to realise theirs.

Connect. Where Product Founders Fit.

We are providing a software that enables customers to order and to be delivered by bicycle. Ordering is done thanks to our Android and iPhone apps or our website. Same functionalities as the gig economy platforms, but in a diametrically opposed spirit!

CoopCycle aims to become a numerical common well. It belongs to its users (couriers, shop owners) and its contributors (developers). They administer it democratically. Our software is ruled by a licence by the Peer-to-peer Foundation. It limits its commercial use to worker-owned coops. For now on, we are providing the software for free, in order to give the impulse of coops creation. Our goal is to finance it thanks to a contribution, which gives rights to use the software and to administer it.

We want to build a whole political and economical ecosystem around the software, clashing with the one developed by the “gig economy” platforms. We are creating a federation of worker-owned cooperatives, which will use, own and manage the CoopCycle software. Many delivery cooperatives that share our values are already launching in France and in Belgium. We are ourselves working on a delivery cooperative in Paris.

We think that the cooperative is the best model to meet our goals: give back the power to the workers, by a democratic decision process and a fair profits sharing. Get back the social benefits: vacation, health insurance, retirement.

Our vision: cooperatives that are ran locally, united internationally, in order to compete with global platforms. Pool our resources, including the software as a mean of production, to get economy of scale. But also our voices, to show to everyone that there is indeed an alternative!

CORNWARE COMMITS TO PLANTING A LIFE-GIVING TREE FOR EVERY CASE PURCHASED

Cornware has helped to plant almost 10.000 life-giving trees in the Sub -Saharan Africa since the past two months through its commitment to the `Trees for the Future` project, thus helping to change lives and save the planet.

In July 2017, Cornware UK pledged to fund the planting of a tree for every case of products sold. The trees planted through 'Trees for the Future' are fast-growing, soil rebuilding fruit trees that promote the long-term health of the land. They provide income and nutrition, forage and fuel-wood for families and communities to help break the cycle of generational poverty.

`As responsible stewards of the Earth, Cornware UK's aim is to continually protect the environment in which it operates, both by supporting eco-friendly initiatives and providing eco-friendly products,` explains Cornware Director, Rohit Belani.

Cornware major distributors include Brakes, Tri-Star Alliance, SOCIUS Network and Country Range, leading suppliers of reliable and consistent quality catering disposables. We urge all catering outlets including cafes, restaurants, hospitals, educational institutions, sporting grounds to get behind us too and purchase a case of Cornware so that together we can support this worthwhile, life-changing cause.

Aside from being eco-friendly, Cornware foodware brings out the vibrancy of the food-to-go with its exotic colours such as midnight black, bright summer tones or natural hues and helps you capture the perfect food experience. Cornware's 100% biodegradable range offers a conscious and fashionably crafted solution in vibrant urban colours and brings chicness to the mundane disposable tableware market. Perfect for food-to-go, hospitality, sports, events, education and other food service needs, this unique innovation is 100% biodegradable, oil & water proof, lightweight, durable and of exceptional quality.

Cornware products are fashionable yet competitively priced, earth friendly and of high quality. Cornware comes in 12 vibrant urban colours namely - forest green, midnight black, tangerine orange, glacier blue, ocean blue, rose red, violet, lavender, coral pink, pearl white, lime green and citron yellow and offers a whole world of fashionable and practical options to suit any occasion and purpose. Cornware products include plates, cutlery, cold cups, lunch boxes, bowls, trays and bags.

Cornware is made from primarily renewable sources of material, Origo that will biodegrade and not be a burden on the environment. The end product is a non-toxic waste for fertilizers, emission of non-toxic gases and a reduction in the emission of carbon dioxide when incinerated. At the same time, the process of making Cornware is 72% more carbon efficient than traditional plastics, such as polystyrene. Cornware`s 100% biodegradable tableware produces 3.5 times less carbon than polystyrene.

Cornware disposables are of high quality. The Cornware products are strong and durable with hinge mechanism that allows for good closure while the unique Origo material does not sweat and is microwavable. They can go from the freezer to microwave, withstanding temperatures between -20°C and 150°C.The products are oil and water proof, lightweight and acid and alkali resistant. They are competitively priced compared to normal plastics and cheaper than most biodegradable and compostable products.

Since 1995 Crescent Capital has been supporting and building high-grade venture backed companies in Northern Ireland. We back the creative teams, the determined, the passionate and the indefatigable, the independent thinkers.

We thrive on meeting potential investee businesses. We seek out the bold, creative and independent thinkers. We like to meet teams at an early stage to start a conversation that will hopefully develop a mutual understanding and common purpose – the core of our partnerships.

We immerse ourselves in these companies, their product, their customers and their management team. We primarily offer companies funding but crucially we also provide guidance, expertise, experience and exposure to a network of relevant business contacts.

Through partnering with us local companies are transformed into thriving global businesses. This undoubtedly brings challenges to the company. But by having an open and honest relationship from the outset, both Crescent and the investee company will have a unified vision where challenges are foreseen, planned for and overcome together.

CRESCENT NURTURING - When we commit to investing in a business we are not only committing to developing its commercial potential but also the talents of the people within the business.

We are adept at seeing the often submerged qualities of entrepreneurs and by passing on our knowledge, expertise and guidance we help develop outstanding management teams.

We expose teams to the requirements needed to grow global businesses. We know these entrepreneurial individuals will thrive on meeting the challenges of transforming their businesses and we will empower them to do so.

CRESCENT DILIGENT - We couple our enthusiasm for investing in exciting businesses with thorough diligence of the proposition and the business. It is our duty to the potential investee company as well as investors to scrupulously carry this out.

We wish to craft a bespoke deal that will maximise success for the investee business. Initial diligence will take place prior to the preparation of an investment proposal paper to the Crescent Capital III Investment Committee. Once the key terms of a deal is agreed, official diligence can begin. We research the market, customer and brand. We undertake psychometric profiling of the management team dynamics. We review the management structure and future hiring plans.

Additionally we help shape and refine a future-facing plan in the light of dynamically changing processes. All of this is formative, as the diligence process provides on-going insight and helps both parties develop a shared view of the journey ahead post investment.

We work hard to make the process as efficient and helpful as possible, usually completing in 8-12 weeks.

Operating expenses are up and income is down throughout the entire food service industry. After taxes and expenses restaurants that make money, according to the National Restaurant Association, have bottom lines at 0.5 – 3.0 percent of sales. This tiny percentage is the difference between being profitable and going under, and it drives home the importance of controlling food cost. The best way to control food cost is to have a proper food-rotation system in place. Located in Bowling Green, Ohio, DayMark Safety Systems is the leader in personal, facility and food safety systems. Founded in 1989, DayMark specializes in products that assist restaurants and other food service establishments in complying with FDA and other compliance codes.

Delivery Concepts was formed in August 1986. Our primary goal was then—and still is today—to create and manufacture affordable, high quality delivery solutions for the nation’s food industry. For over 30 years, we have served our clients through a line of temperature-controlled truck bodies and custom vehicle inserts that have allowed our customers to deliver kitchen-fresh quality to their customers no matter how far away.

Delivery Concepts’ strength lies in our ability to listen to our clients’ needs and provide an affordable solution. Our trucks are custom-designed for each client and their specific temperature requirements, along with interiors fitted to the client’s packaging specifications that enhance delivery efficiencies and methods.

In 1986, Delivery Concepts primarily served the pizza delivery industry with heated solutions for the surging pizza delivery business. Over the last 30 years our product development evolved around providing temperature delivery solutions to the entire food service industry including caterers, senior nutrition, institutional food service, restaurants and wholesale food purveyors.

Delivery Concepts is heavily involved in the development and production of mobile kitchen trucks and helping franchises grow their franchise business through proprietary designed mobile kitchen trucks (food trucks), that enhance branding and allow the franchisee an affordable entry into his or her own business.

Our 30 years would not be possible except for our attention to detail, our attention to the customer, and our excellent customer service, backed by the best warranty in the business. It is our creed to continue to research new technologies, new methods of manufacturing and new ways to better serve our customers. Delivery Concepts believes that it is a privilege and honor to serve our clients and be their go-to company for temperature-controlled delivery solutions, now and in the future.

We build community through food.

We do this by forming genuine, trusting relationships with our farmers and partners, and serving food that embraces the seasons. In our kitchens, our chefs prepare real food from scratch, inspiring them to cook up their best ideas and their own best futures. We believe in the power of a shared table for the everyday and the extraordinary place where friendships are made and ideas are born. Let’s start with a meal.

Words from our Culinary Innovator - Dig-Isms

- Buy food from farms.Build a neighborhood around your kitchen. Form genuine relationships that last with guests, partners, friends, and colleagues. Know the impact of your choices.

- Roll with the seasons. Connect with the world around you. Each season will bring fresh wonders and challenges. Consider them opportunities to learn and grow.

- Make meals from scratch. Celebrate the simplest pleasures. Real, living foods have a short peak of perfection. Respect that moment and seek to serve it.

- Cook for a person. You have the power to brighten someone’s day. Cook the last serving of brussel sprouts with the same care and attention as the first. Recipes are only as good as the humans behind them.

- Serve mostly vegetables. Be gentle with the land. Eat foods that are good for you, the environment, and the communities that grow them. Make decisions with tomorrow in mind.

- Eat at a table. Good food makes us happy. Enjoy meals the old-fashioned way at a shared table with friends and family.

- Nurture the next crop. Cast a wide net. Teach as much as you learn, learn as much as you teach. Seed your ideas, and tend to the people around you.
